One of the Top 25 Cookbooks of the Year–The Daily Meal

2012 Cookbook Roundup Shortlist Recommended CookBook–NPR

I am thrilled to announce my first cookbook, Gluten-Free Baking for the Holidays: 60 Recipes for Traditional Festive Treats, fromĀ Chronicle Books.

It concentrates on the fall/winter holiday season: Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, New Year’s and Twelfth Night–you know, the months when everything seems to be about baking. This book covers all the traditional favorites, as well as cherished family recipes. These recipes make baked treats so good, you will be proud to serve them to your family and friends at the parties, dinners, breakfasts, potlucks, and all of the events that require festive food during this most celebratory of seasons!

I am honored that Nancy Baggett, one of my baking goddesses and author of many of my favorite baking cookbooks, has written the foreward.

Extra deliciousness: The photos are by Clare Barboza, with styling done by Helene Dujardin, two of the most talented women I have ever had the good fortune to work with.

This book is gonna rock your holiday stockings off!

WOW!!! My first though about your amazing cookbook!! I’ve tried at least 5 different crust recipes and your crust was amazingly delicious. Since the attempt to make your recipe, I’ve already made numerous others and have loved them as well. You made a fantastic cookbook and will continue to follow you and your site. THANK YOU for sharing!! I tell everyone about it that is either GF or is going GF. I plan on passing out your cookbook as gifts. It truly is one for the gluten free community!
Appreciated fan, Tracie C (Colorado)

Does this book include your pie crust recipe? I recently made a pie with that recipe and I nearly died because it was incredible!! I haven’t had a truly good pie crust since living without wheat, gluten, and eggs. Thank you!

Does this book include a recipe for sugar cookies? My sister-in-law has just been diagnosed with not only Celiac Disease, but she is also allergic to corn, wheat, soy, eggs, bovine dairy and a bunch of other things. Needless to say, all of our heads are swimming as we try to help her figure out what she can eat and how to prepare it! She is craving sugar cookies! The other day she made herself a pizza with a gluten-free dough, pureed canned gluten-free tomatoes, goat cheese, and lots of fresh herbs; she said she thought she was going to cry because she didn’t think she’d ever get to have pizza again and it tasted wonderful!

Robin: Yes, my book has sugar cookies. The cookies do have eggs in the recipe, but I have a chart on how to substitute for eggs in the beginning of the book. Also, you might want to check out the “Angel Cookies” recipe on this site (use the Search box on the front page). Happy baking!

I’ve never heard of your blog before, but I happened across your cookbook at the book store and looked through it so long that my husband just surprised me with it as an early Christmas present. I love it! :) I have yet to make something, as I just got it late last night, but I can’t wait. I really like the way you explain things out. No one else ever has before.. I read through the tips and some other areas and it was like light bulbs turned on.. Way to simplify gf baking for people like me that just weren’t getting it before. :) Thanks! :D

I am excited for your book! I know I will be purchasing at least 2 copies as my mom & I recently have found out we are gluten intolerant (explaining years of “unexplained” medical issues). We have always loved baking and to find out you can’t have those items in the same manner anymore was upsetting. But once I found your site….we are enjoying baking the breads, cookies and cakes that we have always done. Thank you again for your wonderful site!

Love your site, enjoy your Twitter too! (I wish you would write more about your chickens).
I’m curious why you hired a photographer, since Helene is so great at styling and photography?

Debbi: Who hires the photographer and whether or not there is a stylist is based on what the publisher wants to do and what is in your contract. My publisher reserved the right to hire the photographer they wanted. I suggested Clare (who lives in Seattle and is awesome!). They agreed and hired her. Then Clare hired Helene as stylist. That meant that I had two amazing women working on the photos for the book! I am so lucky!
